You don't come here to be blown away. You just don't. That being said, the food is fine. It's Texmex, not authentic Mexican fare. It's cheap in my opinion which makes me feel better about coming here. The portions are reasonable but not excessive. Service has been fine each time I've come. It'll fill your stomach for cheap and that's what I've used it for. Worth checking out but don't expect to be blown away.

This is a pretty standard Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is neat and clean. I have seen several reviews that say they had problems with cleanliness. I believe those issues look resolved.
The same with service. The old reviews chastised the service. We had a great experience as far as service was concerned. The servers were polite, fast and attentive.
The actual food was a bit of a letdown. Plain is the best word to describe it. Decently cooked, but overall it was just bland. The carne asada looked great covered in grilled peppers and onions. The taste was flat though. Same with the taco, quesadilla and Chile relleno very lite spice or seasoning.
Some of the new gourmet taco places are going to challenge these old school Mexican places to step up their game. -

Lemme do ya a solid, Greer. Allow me to give you the real scoop on El Mariachi and save you from the throes of angst and doubt as you consider whether and how to incorporate it into your restaurant rotation. I know the grating question creeps malignantly into your psyche every time you ride down Wade Hampton, so I feel compelled to settle both your impassioned thirst for knowledge and your urgent hunger for grub...
First, here's what's true: if you're hungry, it's available. You can get a hot meal here, and quickly, and on the cheap. This is Americanized Mexican fare at its stereotypical fullness, dripping with plops of decent refried beans and pedestrian chips and salsa. Recent changes in management and kitchen staff and wait staff and more have affected the restaurants esthetics positively and the food negatively. Their formerly better-than-average salsa is now sorely lacking in garlic and cilantro the past few times I've gone for lunch, and I'm more than un poco triste about it. Still, if you're in need of a full estomago without an empty maleta, I think it's a decent meal.
Second, here's what's not true: it's not anywhere close to a 5-stars-on-Yelp kinda joint. It's just not. The food quality is not above average for Mexican joints, the service does not wow anyone, and the food quantity isn't blowing away any buffet-lover-types by any means. It's also not a 1-star-on-Yelp kinda joint either - like I said, I'll go here time to time for lunch and be perfectly able to maintain respect for myself. You will, too.
If they turned up the food quality and service excellence, we'd be talkin about a different animal altogether, but for now, it is what it is. Despite the prominent location and polished signage, no es oro todo lo que reluce... -

Salsa is good. Service was bad, steak was horrible. So tough I almost choked on a piece.

Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in Greer.
Great food, Great Music, Great Service and the drinks are out of this world. Try the Margaritas any flavor will be exquisite.
